Master’s views of Istanbul in the US!

“Ara Güler Photography Exhibition,” organized by the Turkish Presidency and started to tour the world in April, is preparing to meet art lovers in its fourth stop in New York, following London, Paris and Kyoto.

“Ara Güler Exhibition,” organized by the Presidency in collaboration with the Ara Güler Museum and the Archive and Research Center, brings the works of prominent photographer and photojournalist Ara Güler, who passed away last year, to the important art capitals of the world.

Ara Güler Photography Exhibition, which was held in London’s Saatchi Gallery in April, at Paris Polka Gallery in May and at Kyoto Tofuku-ji Temple in Japan during the G-20 Summit, will be opened in New York at the same time as the United Nations General Assembly, where the world's focus will be on the US.

Ara Güler Photography Exhibition, which has been put on the agenda of the leading media outlets such as The Times, Daily Mail and Le Figaro in London and Paris and placed in the top 10 activities in London, will meet art lovers at the Alexander Hamilton US Custom House in Smithsonian NMAI, at the heart of Wall Street between September 23 and October 4.

The aim is to carry the exhibition to a wide range of audience coming from various cultures and nations all over the world to New York for the UN.

The main axis of the exhibition is based on Ara Güler's photographs of Istanbul dating back to the 1950s, and the exhibition also covers a selection of portraits ranging from Dustin Hoffman to Federico Fellini, Pablo Picasso to Salvador Dali and Brigitte Bardot to Sophia Loren.

Furthermore, Fahir Atakoğlu, a renowned pianist and composer, whose Istanbul in Blue album cover of 2018 consists of a photo of Istanbul by Ara Güler, will give a recital at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

A panel entitled “Intercultural Conversation on Ara Güler” will be held within the scope of the exhibition as well. The panel will be attended by John Bailey, President of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2017-2019, Christopher Mahoney, Vice President of Phillips Photography, Alexey Titarenko, a renowned photographer for black and white city photographs, and Çağla Saraç, Art Advisor to Doğuş Group.

Ara Güler Photography Exhibition will be opened at the Trastevere Museum in Rome at its fifth stop after New York and then at the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu. The main sponsors of the exhibition are Halkbank and Ziraat Bank, the media sponsors are Sabah and Daily Sabah, and the official airline sponsor is the Turkish Airlines.
