Ancient city of Gordion in Türkiye added to UNESCO World Heritage list

The ancient city of Gordion, the magnificent archaeological site of the capital of Türkiye, Ankara, was added to the "UNESCO World Heritage List" at the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Riyadh. Thus, Gordion was registered as Türkiye's 20th asset on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Gordion is known as the political and cultural capital of Phrygia, which arose following the fall of the Hittite Empire in the 12th century BC.

The ancient city is located in the Polatlı district of Ankara and dates back to 2500 B.C. (Early Bronze Age).

Numerous mounds dating from the 9th century B.C. to the 3rd century B.C. can be found in the immediate area of the city. Gordion and its surrounding areas are among the longest-inhabited rare sites on the globe.
