Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun said, “We will not renege on our agreements or allow this despicable regime to kill and drive millions of civilians to our borders. The regime has already created an incredible amount of chaos and destruction in this region. Turkey refuses to stand by and watch humanitarian disaster unfold.”
Altun posted a thread on his Twitter account, indicating that the Assad regime is responsible for producing millions of IDPs and refugees, war crimes, chemical weapons attacks, terrorism, and regional instability.
“The regime’s belligerent behavior in Idlib has shown the regime can’t be trusted, must be stopped and held responsible,” Altun said, adding that this regime has violated every agreement it has ever had since the start of the conflict, it has killed its own citizens and violated every moral code.
Stating that any power that supports such a regime must know that it will simply create further instability and danger for the region, Altun made the following remarks:
“Turkey has been trying to enforce the deconfliction zone agreement we reached with Russia and Iran as part of the Astana and Sochi processes. The regime violated the terms of this agreement by trying to take over Idlib based on shallow pretexts by attacking civilians. We will not renege on our agreements or allow this despicable regime to kill and drive millions of civilians to our borders. The regime has already created an incredible amount of chaos and destruction in this region. Turkey refuses to stand by and watch humanitarian disaster unfold.”
