Touching on the statement made by Mustafa Akıncı, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun said: "Such remarks that hurt the precious souls of martyrs could be considered only as a reflection of the personal survival concerns of a politician, who is no longer deemed credible by the Turkish nation.”
In a written statement, Altun slammed Akıncı, the President of TRNC, over his statements to The Guardian daily.
"We condemn in the strongest terms the remarks made by Mustafa Akıncı, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, in an interview with a foreign media outlet,” Altun said, adding that such remarks that hurt the precious souls of martyrs could be considered only as a reflection of the personal survival concerns of a politician, who is no longer deemed credible by the Turkish nation.
Altun made the following remarks:
"This person, who acts in front of their non-Turkish interlocutors like children acting out in family visits, obviously does not deserve to sit on the chair of presidency, which has cost the lives of Turkish Cypriots and our heroic soldiers. The Republic of Turkey has no designs on the soil of any country and it will not allow the centuries-old Turkish land Cyprus or the Blue Homeland to be offered to anyone. The Turkish nation will put Mustafa Akıncı in his place and he will pay the heaviest price for such impertinence at the ballot box."
