Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun shared a thread on his Twitter account in which he indicated that saying “The hill of martyrs is not empty” means “we have lost many martyrs to make this land our homeland.”
"Saying that the hill of martyrs is not empty means heroes who fell martyrs in defence of our homeland are in eternal rest all across this land”, Altun said, and continued as follows:
"Saying that the ’The hill of martyrs is not empty’ means that this land soaked with the blood of martyrs is sacred. Saying that the 'The hill of martyrs will not remain empty’ means that we will always defend our heavenly homeland which has been targeted by many failed occupation attempts throughout history. Saying that the hill of martyrs will not remain empty means that we will never ever leave our homeland, which is soaked with the blood of our martyrs, defenceless against enemy attacks, and if needed, we will die for it. Everyone must know that anyone who fell a martyr while defending the country took his place on the hill of martyrs along with the heroes of the Independence War. The hill of martyrs will not remain empty. Saying that 'the hill of martyrs will remain empty during our office’ is a frank confession, and our nation will surely call them to account for it. May God help our gallant army and our grand nation.''
