Altun: “Libya’s government has requested Turkey’s military support. We will of course honor our agreement”

Director of Communications  Fahrettin Altun indicated that regional forces working to reestablish repressive regimes unaccountable to people were active in Libya, saying “Their efforts to install client governments will not succeed.”

Altun expressed in a post he shared on his Twitter account that Libya’s government had requested Turkey’s military support.

Noting that as President Erdoğan said Turkey would honor its agreement with Libya, Altun emphasized Turkey was fully committed to protecting its mutual interests and establishing stability in the Mediterranean.

Altun pointed out that Turkey was supporting the internationally recognized legitimate government in Libya, stating that outside powers must stop supporting illegitimate groups against the Libyan government.

Altun noted the following:

"As we support the Libyan government, we do not want Libya to be a war zone. Those regional forces working to reestablish repressive regimes unaccountable to people are active in Libya. Their efforts to install client governments will not succeed.

Our maritime agreement with Libya ensures that Turkey’s freedom of movement in the high seas is not undermined. It also ensures a strong relationship with the Libyan government. We are committed to stability and peace both in Libya and in the Mediterranean."
