100th anniversary of Republic celebrated globally with enthusiasm

The world’s leading countries joined the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye by hosting receptions and other events.

AZERBAIJAN

In Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, a conference on "Historical Perspective on Türkiye-Azerbaijan Brotherhood Relations on their 100th Anniversary" was held.

Cahit Bağcı, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Baku, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations, as well as a large number of guests and students, attended the conference organized by TRT and Caspian University under the coordination of the Directorate of Communications of the Republic of Türkiye.

The celebration began with a commemoration of all martyrs and veterans who fought for the two countries' sovereignty, followed by anthems and a moment of silence.

Cahit Bağcı, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Baku, Ufuk Turganer, Representative of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to Baku, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations, and a large number of guests attended another event organized by the Education Counsellor’s Office of the Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan.

The event, which drew about 2,000 people to Heydar Aliyev Palace, began with a moment of silence and the two countries' national anthems.

 

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

The TRT film "The Republic" was screened in Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in honour of the Republic's 100th anniversary.

The 1998 TRT film "The Republic" starring Rutkay Aziz and Savaş Dinçel, directed by Ziya Öztan and written by Turgut Özakman, was screened at the Sarajevo Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) in honour of the Republic's 100th anniversary. The people of Bosnia and Herzegovina watched the film with appreciation.

The experiences of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades on the way to the declaration of the Republic following the War of Independence are recounted in the film, which is screened with subtitles in Bosnian.

 

BULGARIA

The Consul General of Türkiye in Plovdiv, Korhan Küngerü, hosted a reception on the occasion of October 29 Republic Day and the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

The reception, which began with the playing of the Turkish and Bulgarian national anthems at a hotel in Plovdiv, was followed by the reading of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's congragulatory message.

 

CHINA

The 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye was celebrated with a reception organised at the Embassy in Beijing, China.

Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Nong Rong attended the 100th anniversary reception hosted by Türkiye's Ambassador to Beijing İsmail Hakkı Musa.

The reception was attended by ambassadors, diplomats, military attachés of more than 40 countries in Beijing, representatives of organisations and institutions in China, and Turkish citizens living in China.

Another event planned as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Republic of Türkiye in China was the national day reception planned by the Consulate General of Türkiye in Hong Kong.

 

CROATIA

The Turkish Harmony Stars Orchestra (TÜRKAY) of the Ministry of National Defence and the Jazz Band of the Croatian Armed Forces Orchestra performed a joint concert at the Academy of Music.

The 100th Anniversary Anthem was performed by both armies' orchestras.

On October 26, 2023, the 100th Anniversary of the Republic Reception was hosted by Yavuz Selim Kıran, Ambassador of Türkiye to Zagreb. The reception was attended by over 1,000 guests, including high-level representatives from the Croatian Parliament and Government, ambassadors, and prominent figures from the business, sports, and art communities.

On the facade of the Hotel, one of the tallest structures in Zagreb, where the reception was held, the Turkish flag and the 100th anniversary of our Republic logo were projected.

The famous actor Tarik Filipović, who also presented the programme "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire", hosted the reception.

The Turkish Harmony Stars Orchestra (TÜRKAY) and the "HeritageEnsemble", consisting of students and graduates of Istanbul University State Conservatory, performed at the reception.

Guests were served a menu prepared by the Turkish chef and staff of the Rixos Dubrovnik Hotel, which featured a variety of Turkish cuisine's local flavours.

The reception also featured an exhibition of Ara Güler's photographs.

 

GREECE

The 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye was celebrated with a reception held in Athens, the capital of Greece.

Approximately 800 guests attended the reception held at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic, hosted by Türkiye's Ambassador to Athens, Çağatay Erciyes.

Among those who attended the reception were Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostas Fragogiannis, representatives of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Greek public institutions, heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Athens, military attachés, artists, academics, members of the press and citizens.

 

IRAQ

The 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye was celebrated with a reception held in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.

The October 29 Republic Day reception was held at the Turkish Embassy's building in Baghdad.

Minister of Transport of Iraq Razak Muhibis, Deputy Minister Deputy Minister for Political Planning of Iraq Hisham Al-Alawi, Iraqi MPs, Head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF) Hasan Turan, as well as representatives of foreign missions in Baghdad, attended the reception.

 

IRELAND

A reception was held in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, to mark October 29th Republic Day and the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

The reception hosted by the Turkish Ambassador to Dublin Hakan Olcay at a hotel was attended by guests from the Irish Parliament, the Irish Senate and the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, as well as the heads of diplomatic missions in the country and Turkish citizens.

 

ITALY

The Turkish Embassy in Rome hosted a October 29 Republic Day reception to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye.

Türkiye's Ambassador to Rome Ömer Gücük, Undersecretary of the Embassy Ayça Sarıtekin, Armed Forces Naval and Air Attaché Colonel İbrahim Akgül greeted guests in person at the door at the reception held in the Embassy residence, which was illuminated with red-white lights for the holiday.

More than 1000 guests attended the reception, including Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Roberto Guariglia, Commander of the NATO Defence College (NDC) Danish Lieutenant General Max A.L.T. Nielsen, Türkiye's Ambassador to the Vatican City Ufuk Ulutaş, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Rome Rashad Aslanov, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to the Vatican City Ilgar Mukhtarov, TRNC Representative in Rome Mustafa Davulcu, and guests from the business, arts, politics, and diplomacy communities.

 

KOSOVO

The 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye and October 29 Republic Day were commemorated with a reception in Prishtina, Kosovo's capital.

The reception was attended by Prime Minister Albin Kurti of Kosovo, Ambassador of Türkiye to Prishtina Sabri Tunç Angılı, Minister of Regional Development of Kosovo and Chairman of the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo (KDTP) Fikrim Damka, as well as ministers, MPs, mayors, representatives of political parties, representatives of Turkish institutions in the country, and many guests representing Kosovo Turks.

 

KYRGYZSTAN

Kyrgyzstan hosted celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.

The celebration of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Türkiye began with an event held at the Bishkek Turkish Secondary School affiliated to the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye.

The ceremony opened with the playing of the two countries' national anthems, followed by the documentary "The Republic," and the Turkic World Orchestra performing Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's favourite folk songs.

 

MONTENEGRO

The Turkish Embassy in Podgorica hosted a reception to commemorate the Republic's 100th anniversary.

The reception, hosted by Türkiye's Ambassador to Podgorica Barış Kalkavan at the Embassy Residence, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro and Chairman of the Bosniak Party Ervin Ibrahimovic, President of the Islamic Community of Montenegro Rifat Fejzic, representatives of local institutions, diplomatic representatives of different countries, Embassy staff, and many other guests.

 

NIGERIA

A reception was held at the Turkish Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye.

The reception, hosted by Türkiye's Ambassador to Abuja Hidayet Bayraktar, began with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the reading of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's message on October 29th Republic Day.

Ministers, members of parliament, diplomatic mission representatives, business people, representatives of the Turkish community in Nigeria, members of the press and guests attended the reception.

 

PAKISTAN

October 29 Republic Day and the 100th anniversary of the Republic were celebrated in Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMV) schools in Pakistan.

Türkiye's Ambassador to Islamabad Mehmet Paçacı, Country Director of TMV Pakistan Harun Küçükaladağlı, representatives of Turkish institutions and companies in Pakistan, students, and Pakistanis attended the event held at the Pak-Turk Maarif Boys Campus in Islamabad.

 

RUSSIA

The Turkish Embassy in Moscow hosted a reception in honour of the Republic's 100th anniversary.

The reception, which was held at a hotel in Moscow, was attended by Türkiye's Ambassador to Moscow Mehmet Samsar, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, diplomatic representatives of various countries, and Embassy staff, as well as many guests.

 

SERBIA

The Embassy of Türkiye in Belgrade organised a reception on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

The reception held at a hotel in Belgrade was attended by Ambassador of Türkiye to Belgrade Hami Aksoy, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Usame Zukorlić, Minister in Charge of Balanced Regional Development Edin Djerlek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Serbia Nemanja Starović, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Goran Aleksić, diplomatic representatives of different countries and embassy staff, as well as many guests.

 

SPAIN

On the occasion of the Republic's 100th anniversary, a panel titled "Türkiye-Spain relations from past to present" was held in Madrid, Spain's capital.

Historians explained the historical and political relations between Türkiye and Spain in a panel organised in the conference hall of the National Library building in Madrid with the support of the Embassy of Türkiye in Madrid, the Madrid Yunus Emre Institute (YEE), and the National Library of Spain.

 

SWITZERLAND

A reception was organised by the Turkish Embassy in Bern and the Consulate General in Zurich to mark the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Türkiye.

The reception hosted by Turkish Ambassador to Bern Emine Ece Özbayoğlu Acarsoy and Consul General in Zurich Hasan Emre Uygun at a hotel in Bern was attended by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bern Fuad Isgandarov, Consul General in Geneva İpek Zeytinlioğlu Özkan, President of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Günay Efendiyeva, representatives of foreign missions and members of the Turkish community in Switzerland.

The programme began with the playing of the national anthems of Türkiye, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein, followed by protocol speeches.

Additionally, the "100 Kilometres Walk in the 100th Year of the Republic" event organised by the Swiss Branch of the Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD) began.

 

THE NETHERLANDS

The Turkish Consulate General in Amsterdam hosted a reception to commemorate the Republic's 100th anniversary.

The reception held at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam was attended by Ambassador of Türkiye to The Hague Selçuk Ünal, Consul General in Amsterdam Mahmut Burak Ersoy, Consul General in Rotterdam Sevgi Kısacık, Consul General in Deventer Muammer Hakan Cengiz, Military Attaché Colonel Ömer Faruk Kılıç, Counsellor for Religious Affairs Prof Haluk Songur, Amsterdam's City Council member from Denk Party Süleyman Koyuncu, Turkish Airlines General Manager in Amsterdam Şerafettin Ekici, representatives of diplomatic corps, representatives of non-governmental organisations, embassy personnel, diplomats of different countries, as well as many Turkish and Dutch guests.
 

UNITED KINGDOM

A reception was held in London, the capital of the United Kingdom, on the occasion of October 29th Republic Day and the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

A reception was held by the Turkish Embassy in London on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic at the Guildhall, one of the historical buildings of the capital, with the participation of senior British officials, diplomatic representatives of various countries and approximately a thousand guests from the Turkish community and business world in the United Kingdom.

The reception was also attended by Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, son of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and his wife Reyyan Erdoğan, who were in London for an international meeting.

 

FOREIGN MISSIONS

In addition to the events held abroad, foreign mission representatives in Türkiye also shared congratulatory messages on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye.

Ambassador Jürgen Schulz's message was shared on the X platform account of the German Embassy in Ankara.

In a message shared on her social media account, French Ambassador to Ankara Isabelle Dumont stated that she went to the Atatürk Mausoleum with her colleagues from the diplomatic corps in Ankara to pay homage to the founder of modern Türkiye, and that she was moved by the enthusiasm of thousands of people from all generations who went there to pay their respects.

Pakistan's Embassy in Ankara also shared Ambassador Yusuf Cüneyd's message on the X social media platform.

The receptions and events, which began with the singing of the Turkish National Anthem and the national anthems of the countries, proceeded with the display of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's video message on October 29th to the citizens of the Republic of Türkiye and guests.
