Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications has launched a study to review technical standards for public websites in order to increase the reliability of official information and combat disinformation in the digital sphere.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, the circular signed by Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran marks the beginning of a framework that will enable artificial intelligence systems to identify and prioritise state digital content more accurately.

The statement warned that large-scale language models and generative artificial intelligence technologies are transforming access to information and that unverified or misleading results may pose risks to the public.

In this context, the initiative aims to ensure that the digital assets of public institutions serve as reliable reference sources not only for citizens but also for artificial intelligence systems.

Under the new standards, content on the websites of public institutions will be structured in a way that improves identification and interpretation by artificial intelligence systems in order to strengthen information integrity and increase the visibility of official data.

The Directorate of Communications characterised this step not only as a technical update but also as a strategic measure against misinformation, manipulation, and digital disinformation.

The instructions sent to institutions contain specifications for file structures, technical requirements, and implementation examples.

It was also noted that the process will include evaluations and stress tests to assess institutional readiness and compliance, while also aiming to establish a more consistent communication framework for both citizens and artificial intelligence systems.

This initiative is viewed as part of a broader effort to safeguard public information in the age of artificial intelligence and ensure the accurate dissemination of official data.
