Türkiye Says New Military Operation in Gaza Reveals Israel doesn’t Intend to Achieve Lasting Peace (Spain)

The Government of the Republic of Türkiye firmly denounced Israel's new ground operation in the Gaza Strip over the weekend. Ankara underscored that such actions "undermine all attempts to achieve peace and stability" and "demonstrate once again that Israel does not intend to achieve a lasting peace."

''At a time when negotiations are ongoing, Israel's extensive ground operation in Gaza undermines all attempts to achieve peace and stability,'' the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

According to the statement, Türkiye reiterates its call for an immediate end to all military operations against Gaza, allowing humanitarian aid into the region and declaring an urgent ceasefire.

''It is of utmost importance for the international community to take effective and decisive steps against Israel to ensure regional peace and security,'' the Ministry also stated.

"We call on the international community to take action in line with its legal and humanitarian responsibilities," the statement concluded.

The Israeli army announced the launch of an additional "large-scale" offensive in the north and south of Gaza as part of "Operation Gideon's Chariots" on Sunday. Shortly after this announcement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel authorised the re-entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, which had been blocked since March 2. The aid barrier was lifted about two weeks before the Israeli army violated the ceasefire reached with Hamas in January.

Local authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza reported on Sunday that the number of Palestinians killed since the start of Israel's military operations has exceeded 53,300, with over 121,000 wounded.

It was also reported that approximately 3,200 people have been killed and nearly 9,000 injured since Israel violated the ceasefire on March 18.
