Türkiye rescues 84 migrants pushed back by Greece

A news report from Anadolu Agency stated that Türkiye rescued 84 refugees on a boat pushed into Turkish waters by Greece.

According to the news report published on April 4, the Turkish coast guard discovered the rubber boat carrying refugees west of Çanakkale, off the coast of Ayvacık, and launched a rescue operation the day before.

It was reported that 84 refugees, mostly from Afghanistan, were pushed by Greek Coast Guard boats into Turkish waters, where they were rescued by Turkish Coast Guard boats and taken to the Ayvacık foreigner transfer centre.

Greece, along with Italy, is one of the countries in the European Union with the highest influx of Middle Eastern and African refugees.

Refugees frequently attempt to enter Greece by crossing the Aegean Sea between Greece and Türkiye, and there have been many deaths on rubber boats.

On March 14, an estimated 300 to 600 refugees lost their lives when a fishing boat carrying them capsized in strong winds off the coast of the Peloponnese in Greece.
