Türkiye, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance defence cooperation. The four countries announced that they would continue to cooperate in areas such as the development of military equipment.
Representatives of the defence ministries of Türkiye, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia met in Doha, Qatar's capital, on 21 October and signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen defence cooperation.
According to a statement by Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence, the four countries will enhance cooperation on military equipment research and development under the memorandum, which is expected to strengthen their military capabilities.
The statement also emphasised the economic importance of cooperation among the countries’ defence industries.
The four countries share ties rooted in the Islamic world and maintain strong diplomatic relations. Türkiye and Pakistan were among the three countries, along with Saudi Arabia, that signed an agreement in August this year covering collective defence.
Türkiye’s defence industry has grown remarkably in recent years. In a statement to the state news agency, Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries Haluk Görgün said, “We will jointly enhance our capabilities through joint production and development, and by sharing technology.”
