During the ceremony of handing over the CAm. Roman patrol vessel to the Romanian Navy, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye announced the country's first export of a warship to a NATO and European Union member country.
The CAm. Roman vessel was built at the İstanbul shipyard under an agreement with Romania.
Erdoğan said, "Our military shipbuilding industry is experiencing the most intense and most productive days in our 103-year Republic history. We are one of the countries that is simultaneously building the largest number of warships.
With the signing of the sales agreement with Romania, Türkiye made its first-ever export of a warship to a NATO and EU member state.''
The Turkish leader noted that Türkiye has built more than 140 naval platforms for countries across different regions of the world.
According to Erdoğan, while Türkiye's annual defence industry exports stood at around 248 million dollars 23 years ago, the sector now reaches that figure in just one week.
