Turkish official: Global peace and stability hinge on the contributions of countries

Presidency's Head of Communications Fahrettin Altun remarked that countries' foremost responsibility is to contribute to global peace and stability.

In his address at the inauguration of the 61st General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in İstanbul, Altun highlighted Türkiye's effective role in resolving crises and conflicts detrimental to both its region and the global system.

Altun then referenced President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's efforts to mobilise the global community's conscience against the current order by reiterating his slogans, including "A fairer world is possible" and "The world is bigger than five."

He noted that the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union stands as the largest media organisation globally, with 230 members from 65 countries and an audience of 4 billion viewers.

Altun remarked, "The established order and international status quo, which were constructed in accordance with the interests and demands of Western states following World War II, have failed to deliver peace and prosperity to the world and humanity."

He recalled the global crises of the current order, including the Russia-Ukraine war, the Israeli genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza, and the expanded assaults on Lebanon.

"The truth itself is the most important weapon against disinformation as well as deception networks", Altun stated in reference to the media.
