A delegation of 30 members of parliament visited the Rafah border crossing to draw attention to the situation in Gaza.
The 30-member Turkish delegation, which included members of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, visited the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt from the Egyptian side to highlight the situation in Gaza. The visit was shared by the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye.
From the onset of the conflicts with Israel, Türkiye has been among the strongest supporters of Gaza and has taken a range of diplomatic initiatives for the recognition of Palestine. Türkiye has also described Israel’s actions as “genocide” and implemented various sanctions on the country.
During its visit to the Rafah crossing, the delegation called for urgent permission to deliver humanitarian aid to the suffering civilian population.
Hasan Basri Yalçın, the Justice and Development Party Deputy Chairman for Human Rights and Head of the Delegation, emphasised in a press statement that the people of Gaza are dying of hunger.
"There is no counter-terrorism operation taking place here—only civilians are being killed,” Yalçın remarked, characterising the events as “ethnic cleansing.”
The delegation noted that so far, 62,000 civilians have been killed; nearly 10,000 remain missing or trapped under the rubble, including at least 20,000 children.
According to Yalçın, Israel is trying to cover up the realities in Gaza by seeking support from Western organisations.
“However, this genocide has now reached a scale that can no longer be concealed. In no counter-terrorism operation have 70,000 people been killed, nor will they ever be,” he said.
The Head of the Delegation also noted that Türkiye has opposed what has been happening since the very first day and that this visit served to show that the people of Gaza are not alone.
In his statement, he also underlined that Türkiye would continue its efforts on the international stage to support Palestine.
