In a statement issued on September 30, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence announced that the Turkish side was closely monitoring the safe passage of humanitarian aid vessels in the Eastern Mediterranean. It underlined that, if necessary, coordination would be ensured with the relevant institutions and international actors, and that warships and search-and-rescue teams operating in the region would be deployed to provide support.
Reuters had earlier reported that the international “Global Sumud Flotilla” — launched by a non-governmental organisation with the aim of delivering aid to Gaza — had resumed its voyage after repairing damaged ships in Greek waters.
