On August 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine said in a statement posted on his social media account that he had a phone conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye.

Noting that they discussed the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine crisis, peace negotiations, and other important matters during the conversation, Zelenskyy thanked Türkiye for supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for mediating the Russia-Ukraine negotiations in İstanbul.

The parties thoroughly assessed the current diplomatic situation and the opportunities it presents.

Erdoğan emphasised that no negotiation excluding Ukraine could guarantee lasting peace.

Zelenskyy said that they are ready for any format of dialogue to stop the killings and bring an end to the war.

Erdoğan affirmed their readiness to host a summit involving the leaders of Ukraine, the US, Russia, and Türkiye.

The two leaders also discussed key agenda items as part of Ukraine's preparations for the high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly and reached an agreement regarding Türkiye's participation.
