In a phone call with the Prime Minister of Libya, the President of Türkiye expressed his condolences over the loss of Libya’s Chief of General Staff and members of the accompanying delegation in the aircraft crash.
The Presidency’s Directorate of Communications of the Republic of Türkiye released a statement saying that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone call with Libyan Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh following the plane crash in Türkiye that claimed the lives of Libya’s Chief of the General Staff, General Mohamed Ali Al-Haddad, and members of his delegation. President Erdoğan expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the prime minister and the Libyan people.
Last night, the aircraft carrying Libya’s Chief of General Staff and the accompanying delegation, who were in Türkiye for a series of meetings, crashed in the Haymana district, 70 kilometres from the capital, Ankara, 40 minutes after departing Ankara for Tripoli, with the cause still undetermined and under investigation. A total of eight people, comprising five military officials and three crew members, including the pilot, lost their lives in the crash.
