President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter to President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The letter reads as follows: "Dear Mr President,
My Dear Brother,
On this day, July 15, I commemorate all our brothers and sisters who were martyred nine years ago while thwarting the coup attempt in Türkiye with deep respect and reverence, and I extend my deepest condolences to their families and to your entire nation.
That night, brotherly Türkiye inscribed one of the greatest epics of heroism in its modern history. Your brave and determined people stood firmly against the bloody coup attempt that targeted the constitutional and democratic foundations of the Republic of Türkiye, shielding their homeland, flag, and state with their own bodies. Today, we can proudly say that July 15, Democracy and National Unity Day, stands as a landmark date that honours the triumph of powerful and unwavering will, national unity, solidarity, and patriotism.
From the very first moments of that treacherous coup attempt, the people and the state of Azerbaijan stood by brotherly Türkiye, displaying full support and solidarity. This was yet another clear manifestation of the principle of “one nation, two states” and a concrete expression of our brotherhood.
The defeat of this heinous plot against the Turkish state was made possible thanks to your leadership, your great sacrifices, and the unity of your people around you. Brotherly Türkiye emerged from this grave trial with dignity, honour, and renewed strength, once again proving its power to the entire world.
Today, you continue to work with determination and perseverance toward the goal of a “Terror-Free Türkiye,” striving to leave a secure, peaceful, and prosperous country to future generations. The recent decision by the PKK terrorist organisation to dissolve itself and lay down arms is a shining testament to your strong political will and a triumph of national unity and solidarity.
