President Erdoğan’s visit to Athens makes headlines in Greek media

The messages of friendship delivered by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit to Athens yesterday were featured in the headlines of Greek newspapers.

The Kathimerini newspaper quoted the messages of "friendship" from President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece after the meeting under the headline "Promise of lasting peace."

The news report emphasised that the most important outcome of the visit was "the establishment of a substantive dialogue even on challenging issues."

"The smile reflects the positive atmosphere that characterised the Turkish-Greek contacts that took place yesterday in Athens," the news report said, alongside a photo of Erdoğan and Mitsotakis smiling together.

On the other hand, the full-page headline of the Ta Nea newspaper included some Turkish words. The words in Turkish "Peace, Aegean, minority, Lavrion, Cyprus, and Lausanne" were chosen as keywords.

The newspaper, which extensively covered the visit, emphasised that both the Turkish and Greek sides came to the meeting with the intention of genuine cooperation.

The report pointed to a new era in which a "win-win" formula will apply to both parties.

"Win-Win communication, Step-by-Step diplomacy"

The words "Win-Win" were featured in Turkish on the EFSYN headline, along with the words "Step-by-Step."

Under the headline "Win-Win Communication, Step-by-Step Diplomacy," the newspaper highlighted that the initial steps towards "calm waters" were satisfactory for both Athens and Ankara.

The headline of the Eleftheros Typos newspaper, in turn, read "Steps towards a New Era." The "Athens Declaration on Friendly Relations and Good Neighbourliness," signed by Türkiye and Greece yesterday, was described as "historic."

The report highlighted Erdoğan's remarks, "There is no issue that cannot be resolved," and Mitsotakis' comments, "We have a responsibility to bring our nations side by side."

Emphasising the highly fruitful contacts between the two leaders, the report featured the headline, "Greece and Türkiye are raising the anchor for a new era."

According to the report, the visit confirmed the positive climate in relations between the two nations despite significant divergences of opinion.
