According to the statement made by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, President Erdoğan discussed the Russia-Ukraine situation and other regional and global issues in a phone call with President Macron of France on the same day.
During this phone call, President Erdoğan stated that the Russia-Ukraine conflict has reached a historic turning point and that the current opportunity should be seized to advance the peace process. President Erdoğan stressed that, to achieve a ceasefire and lasting peace, Türkiye is ready to provide all the necessary support, including hosting negotiations. President Erdoğan also emphasised that initiating negotiations for lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine should be given the utmost priority and that international cooperation should be strengthened in Ukraine's reconstruction process.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had proposed holding unconditional direct peace negotiations with Ukraine in İstanbul on May 15.
