In a post shared on his Twitter account President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "We respect the will of the nation expressed at the polls" after announcing a second-round runoff for the presidential elections.
Erdoğan stated in reference to the elections held on May 14 that "Turkish democracy and the Turkish nation won, regardless of the results."
Noting that their alliance will receive more votes and they will be the winner of the run-off scheduled for May 28, President Erdoğan of Türkiye said, "By will of Allah, we will win a historic victory."
Erdoğan added that the Turkish nation had confirmed its confidence and faith in their alliance by granting the People's Alliance a majority in the Parliament.
On Monday, the Supreme Electoral Council of Türkiye announced that a run-off election will be held on May 28 since no candidate has secured more than 50% of the vote.
Two candidates, incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and joint candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu of the opposition alliance, will compete in the run-off. According to preliminary data already available, incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye has received 49.50% of the votes, while the candidate of the opposition alliance Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has received 44.89%. 99.87% of the ballots have been counted.
