Over 1,000 tests conducted at Unit 1 of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Türkiye (RIA Novosti)

Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, said on Sunday that more than 1,000 predefined standard tests had been carried out at Unit 1 of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant.

The Minister reiterated that Türkiye aims to begin generating electricity from its first nuclear reactor in the year marking the 70th anniversary of the start of nuclear research in the country.

“More than 1,000 predefined standard tests, maybe more than that, 1,090 to be precise, have already been carried out at Unit 1. This will be a first for Türkiye, as the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant begins operations with the loading of nuclear fuel.” Bayraktar told Kanal 7.

The Minister added that Türkiye’s Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) was closely monitoring the tests, as safety was the top priority.
