Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific, Research and Technological Cooperation signed between West Azerbaijan Science and Technology Park and Türkiye’s Van Business Development Centre (ISNA)

A memorandum of understanding was signed in Urmia between the West Azerbaijan Science and Technology Park and Türkiye's Van Business Development Centre (İŞGEM) to develop cooperation in scientific, research, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship fields, as well as to facilitate communication between companies, institutions, and entrepreneurs of both countries.

At the cooperation protocol meeting held at the Urmia Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, December 4, signed between the West Azerbaijan Science and Technology Park and the Van Business Development Centre to implement technology cooperation between the two regions, Mahmut Gedik, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Van İŞGEM, touched upon the incentives provided to newly established technology companies in Van and said, "Individuals and companies operating in Van benefit from support such as consultancy, incentives and marketing of their products. Our aim is to strengthen newly established companies and take them to the international stage within five years."

Türkiye's Consul General in Urmia, Müslüm Aygün, stated that issues regarding truck and vehicle crossings at the commercial border gates of Bazargan, Serow, and Ivughli were addressed, and cooperation with customs officials was established. He also emphasised that the aim of these collaborations was to reach 30 billion dollars in trade volume between Iran and Türkiye.

Referring to recent meetings with provincial officials, Aygün stated that meetings and consultations were held in recent months to address transit issues and administrative and customs policies, saying, "There is no problem that cannot be solved."

During the meeting, Van Deputy Kayhan Türkmenoğlu of the Turkish Grand National Assembly emphasised the importance of Urmia and Van in Iran-Türkiye border trade. Referring to recent agreements between the two countries and Martyred President Raisi's visit to Türkiye, he stated that the goal was to increase trade volume from 7-8 billion dollars to 30 billion dollars and tourism volume from 4 million to 10 million people.

Türkmenoğlu also stated that the 8th meeting of the Iranian and Turkish border provinces would be held in Van and that these meetings, as well as announcing the efforts of improving common borders, would make a significant contribution to expanding cooperation between the border provinces.
