Prime Minister Dato' Sri Anwar Ibrahim announced that on Thursday, he had a telephone conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye, during which they discussed several important current developments for both countries.
Ibrahim noted that the conversation also offered an opportunity to thank Türkiye for its consistent and determined stance in defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
In a statement on his official Facebook account on Thursday, Ibrahim said, "I conveyed my appreciation for President Erdoğan's determined and consistent stance in defending the rights of the Palestinian people, as well as his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
"Malaysia fully supports Türkiye's noble efforts in bringing the voice of the oppressed people to the international stage and advocating for a fair and lasting solution for the Palestinian people."
Ibrahim emphasised that Malaysia and Türkiye share the same ideals in terms of promoting global peace and cementing the solidarity of the Islamic ummah through diplomatic initiatives, humanitarian aid, and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The close ties between Malaysia and Türkiye have grown stronger in recent years, particularly in humanitarian issues such as the worsening crisis in Gaza since last October.
Anwar had previously raised Malaysia’s voice on the international stage, including at the ASEAN Summit and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), calling for a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian aid corridors into Gaza.
The two countries also engage in strategic cooperation in various fields, including trade, defence technologies, education, and culture, in line with the objective of strengthening bilateral relations based on the principles of justice, peace, and global well-being.
