President Emmanuel Macron of France Discussed the Situation in Gaza with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye
In his statement made in Turkish on his X platform account, Macron said, "I discussed the situation in Gaza and the possibilities of a two-state solution conference with President Erdoğan. Everything must be done to ensure the peace and security of both Israelis and Palestinians."
Earlier this week, Macron declared that France would recognise the state of Palestine at the September session of the United Nations General Assembly, and he published a letter that confirmed France's intention to be the first Western nation to do so and sent it to President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority.
Macron met yesterday with Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the UK and Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany. The three leaders then stated that the situation in the Gaza Strip was "horrifying." The three leaders agreed to collaborate closely on the implementation of the plan, which will "pave the way for a long-term secure solution in the Middle East region."
