President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan underscored the importance of recognizing the State of Palestine during the brutal Zionist aggression against Gaza and Lebanon and that it is "of great meaning" Anadolu Agency has reported.

Speaking at a joint press conference Tuesday with his Finnish counterpart Alexander President Stubb of Finland, who was on an official visit to Türkiye, President Erdoğan said: “In the current environment where the international organizations tasked with ensuring peace and security turn out ineffective, it is of great importance and meaning to recognize the State of Palestine.”

President Erdoğan said; "Since Oct. 7, 2023, (when the Zonist offensive on Gaza was launched) nine countries have recognized the state of Palestine. We reiterate our call to the countries that have not yet done so to recognize the state of Palestine,"

The Turkish president noted,  “I openly expressed our stance regarding Israel’s (the Zionist entity) massacres both at the United Nations and today at our Parliament. It is the primary responsibility of all states and international organizations to oppose Israel’s unjust and illegal (Zionist) occupation and pursuit of colonization.

We reiterate our call for a lasting ceasefire to be declared immediately and humanitarian aid to be allowed in Gaza. We must stand with the Lebanese people and government during this process, President Erdoğan emphasized.

Noting that Israel’s aggression against Gaza and Lebanon was high on the agenda during today’s talks, President Erdoğan said: “I openly expressed our stance regarding Israel’s massacres both at the United Nations and today at our Parliament. It is the primary responsibility of all states and international organizations to oppose Israel’s attempts at occupation and annexation in violation of rights and law.”

Reiterating his call for a lasting ceasefire to be declared immediately and humanitarian aid to be allowed in Gaza, President Erdoğan said: “We must stand with the Lebanese people and government during this process. In the current environment where the international organizations tasked with ensuring peace and security, particularly the Security Council, turn out ineffective, it is of greater importance and meaning to recognize the State of Palestine. Nine countries have recognized the State of Palestine since October 7. We reiterate our call for countries that still have not done so to recognize the State of Palestine.”

Asked whether the Group of Friends of Mediation, co-chaired by Türkiye and Finland, can kick off a process leading to the cessation of hostilities in the region, President Erdoğan said the activities of the group were also addressed during today’s meeting, and that time will tell to what extent the two countries can succeed in mediation.

It has become clear that Israel does not seek or accept mediation, underlined President Erdoğan, adding that mediation efforts would continue depending on the outcomes of the preliminary works carried out by the relevant ministers from the two countries.
