President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye warned against a "devastating war" between Israel and Iran during a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Saturday.
In a statement released by the Presidency, it was said, "President Erdoğan stated during the call that our region cannot tolerate a new crisis and that a devastating war could create waves of irregular migration for all countries in the region."
The Turkish President also called for Israel, which is "the main threat to the region's stability and security," to be "stopped," and stated that the issue regarding Iran's nuclear programme "can only be resolved through negotiations."
On the second day of an unprecedented attack on Iranian territory bordering Türkiye, President Erdoğan stated, "Israel has been brought to this level of lawlessness and aggression due to the international community's turning a blind eye to the occupation and genocide in Palestine."
Having also spoken on the phone with other regional leaders, including King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, and President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran, on Saturday, the Turkish President stated that Israel is "trying to drag the entire region into fire," and reiterated that "the nuclear dispute can only be resolved through diplomatic channels."
The Presidency of Türkiye announced on Saturday evening that Erdoğan expressed his support for the continuation of negotiations between the US and Iran regarding Tehran's nuclear programme during his phone call with Donald Trump.
