Hakan Fidan… European security architecture cannot transform without Türkiye (Greece)

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan emphasised that Ankara was closely monitoring the relevant political lobbies at the European level, noting that there would be no transformation in the European security architecture without Türkiye.

In a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Igli Hasani of Albania, the head of Turkish diplomacy stated that European leaders might hold a meeting on "European security and Ukraine" on March 1st and 2nd.

Hakan Fidan said: "On one hand, steps are being taken to end the war in Ukraine, while on the other, we see European countries making efforts to establish a broad consultation mechanism among themselves. So, what will the European security architecture look like in the future? We see that the European security architecture without NATO is already being built and discussed by European leaders."

Remarking that Türkiye was closely monitoring these meetings, Fidan continued, "If Europe’s security architecture will be transformed, it is impossible to do so without Türkiye. It is important to emphasise that a security architecture that does not include Türkiye, a significant military power, may not be a practical approach."
