Fidan: Gaza should be governed by its own people (IRNA)

Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, said, "Gaza should be governed by its own people. Its territory should not be divided in any way, and everything done in Gaza should be for the benefit of the people.”

Speaking to journalists in Miami, USA, within the framework of negotiations on the Gaza peace plan, Fidan said that the first phase of the plan has been completed and that discussions on the parameters of the second phase have begun.

Emphasising that the talks held and the agreements reached are encouraging, Fidan noted that, with the completion of the first phase of the plan, the parameters for transitioning to the second phase are under discussion.

Drawing attention to existing obstacles, the Turkish Foreign Minister said, “Israel’s violations of the ceasefire make the process incredibly difficult, and all parties agree on this.”

Regarding the reconstruction of Gaza, Fidan stated, “There is a preliminary study on the reconstruction of Gaza.  We presented it and carried out initial assessments based on it.”

The Turkish official also touched upon the discussions held on the timing of transferring Gaza’s administration to a committee composed of technocrats (independent experts).

Referring to the establishment of a Peace Council, Fidan said, “There are ongoing efforts on this issue, and parallel talks on how it will be implemented are continuing.”

Addressing the issue of deploying an international force in Gaza, Fidan said, “We had the opportunity to express our views and listen to others. This was the most important high-level negotiation since the Sharm el-Sheikh meeting.”

Emphasising the importance of humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza, Fidan added, “Winter is coming, and our President shows great sensitivity on this issue.”
