On Friday, the Presidency of Türkiye and the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced that the Türkiye Grand Prix will return to the Formula One World Championship calendar for a five-year period beginning in 2027.

The Türkiye Grand Prix will take place at İstanbul Park, which hosted F1 nine times from 2005 to 2011, as well as in 2020 and 2021.

The Presidency of Türkiye stated, "Türkiye is returning to the track with a five-year contract."

In the afternoon, the opening ceremony was held at Dolmabahçe Palace in İstanbul, attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan; Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali; and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who oversees motorsport disciplines.

President Erdoğan promised the millions of F1 fans in his country "magnificent and exciting races."

In a statement, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said, "Formula 1’s return to Türkiye is a highly powerful reflection of the continued global growth and appeal of our sport," and "thanked" the Turkish President.

According to the FIA, President Erdoğan expressed satisfaction that İstanbul has hosted the Grand Prix nine times so far, including the last two during the Covid pandemic.

The 5.34-kilometre İstanbul circuit features 14 turns, the most famous of which is Turn 8, a high-speed triple-apex left-hand corner.

For the 2027 season, the Türkiye and Portuguese Grands Prix will return to the calendar, while the Dutch Grand Prix will be removed.
