On May 4, following a Cabinet meeting, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced record foreign trade figures for the country. Erdoğan stated that the rolling 12-month volume of Turkish exports reached 275.8 billion USD for the first time in the country's history, with growth recorded across all sectors and in trade with 166 countries and regions.
Referring to relations with the European Union, Erdoğan emphasised that the EU cannot effectively position itself as a global player or a centre of attraction without Türkiye’s full membership. The President emphasised that Europe needs Türkiye more than Türkiye needs Europe and called on European partners to build relations "on an equal footing, without political and historical prejudices."
Announcing expanded support measures for young families, Erdoğan stated that young people benefiting from a preferential loan under the Family and Youth Fund would have 12 repayments waived upon the birth of their first child, while the remaining debt would be converted into a grant upon the birth of their second child.
