President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Türkiye aims to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Speaking at a press conference in Washington, Erdoğan said, "Our goal is to become a permanent member. Türkiye should join the 'Shanghai Five' as a permanent member instead of being an observer state. I discussed this issue with (Russian President) Mr Putin and my Kazakh counterpart (Tokayev) Summit in Astana. I requested their support."
