On 31 May 2025, a phone call took place between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye and President Rumen Radev of Bulgaria. President Erdoğan noted that Türkiye had been making intense efforts to facilitate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in İstanbul.
According to a statement released by the Turkish Presidency, President Erdoğan said that efforts to end the war were ongoing and that Türkiye was closely monitoring Bulgaria’s sensitive and balanced policy on the issue. He emphasised that Türkiye has maintained its initiatives to bring the two parties together in İstanbul for peace.
The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations between Türkiye and Bulgaria, as well as regional and global matters. President Erdoğan added that efforts to enhance cooperation in the fields of defence industry and energy also continued.
