President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Sweden has yet to fulfil its promises to Ankara in the NATO membership process and that the decision will be made by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
Erdoğan said, “Terrorist acts continue on the streets of Stockholm. Promises made to us have not been fulfilled. We will see how the parliament responds."
In May 2022, against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO. Finland became the 31st member of NATO on April 4. Hungary and Türkiye have not yet granted final approval to Sweden's application.
