Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said today that the deal reached between the new government in Damascus and the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) "will serve peace".
During an iftar dinner, Erdoğan said, "Full implementation of the agreement reached yesterday will serve security and peace in Syria. All our Syrian brothers and sisters will benefit from it."
The agreement envisages the integration of all civilian and military institutions into the Syrian state under an autonomous Kurdish administration in the northeast of the country, and it is expected to enter into force by the end of the year.
“Türkiye places significant emphasis on safeguarding the territorial integrity and unitary structure of neighbouring Syria,” stated President Erdoğan.
Erdoğan also said, “We regard any endeavour to rid Syria of terrorism as a positive development.”
