Erdoğan: Parties must not violate the Gaza Ceasefire Agreement (Xinhua)

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye stated that the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip must remain in effect permanently and that no party should violate this agreement.

According to a report by Anadolu Agency, Erdoğan told reporters on the plane while returning to Türkiye after attending the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit, “Israel has a poor record when it comes to violating ceasefires.” This situation requires us to be more cautious and meticulous. If another genocide takes place (in Gaza), Israel must know that the consequences will be severe,” he said.

President Erdoğan emphasised that the ceasefire agreement acknowledges the necessity of resolving the conflict through diplomatic means, condemns extremism, and commits to preserving the cultural heritage of the Gaza Strip.

Reiterating once again that the only viable solution to the Palestinian issue is the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders with East Al-Quds as its capital, Erdoğan stated that the ceasefire is a step forward but does not constitute a final resolution to the problem.

Speaking about the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, Erdoğan emphasised that the region's reconstruction is of vital importance. Erdoğan noted that the besieged region has turned into a massive ruin, with nearly all homes, hospitals, and schools bombed, saying, “We will work tirelessly to meet the shelter needs of the people of Gaza before winter arrives.” Erdoğan called on the international community to engage more broadly in the reconstruction of Gaza.
