Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a joint press conference in Ankara on 12 August after meeting with Palestinian President Abbas, who was visiting the country.
Erdoğan reaffirmed his support for the establishment of a Palestinian state. Abbas stated that "Gaza is an inseparable part of the Palestinian state".
Erdoğan stated that Türkiye firmly supports the establishment of "an independent Palestinian state with a geographical integrity, based on the 1967 borders and with East Al-Quds as its capital," and that it will "continue to resolutely defend the Palestinian cause on all platforms."
Abbas emphasised that “Gaza is an inseparable part of the Palestinian state,” noting that the Palestinian people must stand united and defend their land. Abbas noted that the Palestinian government attaches great importance to the parliamentary elections planned for November and the presidential elections to be held next year.
Abbas also noted that the "Mecca Joint Defence Agreement," recently signed by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan, is of great importance, adding, "I hope this agreement will serve as a starting point for ensuring regional stability and security."
