Erdoğan: Importance of secure transportation corridors has increased (Russia)

Tensions about Iran have demonstrated the importance of secure transportation routes to the entire world. This statement was made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye, speaking at the Global Transport Connectivity Forum.

"Tensions in our region, the uncertainty regarding the Strait of Hormuz and airspace have reminded us just how important secure transportation routes are," said Erdoğan, mentioning logistics projects such as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) and the Development Road among them.

According to Erdoğan, the impact on production linked to the construction of the Middle Corridor and the Development Road will be 114 billion and 50 billion dollars, respectively. Erdoğan is of the opinion that the Middle Corridor will connect Europe and Asia in a secure manner.

Erdoğan stated, "While transportation to Europe takes an average of 35 days via the Suez Canal and 45 days via the Cape of Good Hope, with the implementation of this project, the duration of freight transportation will be reduced to under 15 days."

Regarding the Development Road, Erdoğan stated that this project would boost the strategic importance of the region in terms of transportation. "We, our neighbour Iraq, and all brotherly countries in the region will benefit from this project," said Erdoğan.
