Erdoğan-Guterres meeting (IRNA)

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed regional developments and the agreement between Iran and the US over the phone.

In a statement on Monday, the Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications reported that Erdoğan and Guterres discussed regional and global developments.

The statement noted that Erdoğan underscored during the call that Türkiye is striving for the establishment of peace and stability, especially in Iran, Gaza, and the Horn of Africa.

According to the statement, Erdoğan called for this opportunity for a diplomatic solution to the issues between the US and Iran to be fully leveraged and added that the international community bears a responsibility to ensure the process is not sabotaged.

Emphasising the importance of the effective continuation of the UN institutions' activities in Syria, President Erdoğan said that Türkiye will continue to provide the necessary support in this regard.

The phone discussion also addressed the latest developments on the island of Cyprus, as well as the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Lebanon.
