The consensus reached on a common Turkic alphabet is a historic step towards greater cultural rapprochement among Turkic states. This statement was made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye in an article titled ‘The Century of the Turkic World: From Solidarity to Integration’, which he penned for the 13th Summit of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) held in Ankara.
In his article published in leading media outlets across the member and observer states of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), Erdoğan stated, "Along the path toward cultural convergence, we took a historic step through our demonstrated will regarding a common Turkic alphabet. To advance this initiative further, we will expand our cooperation in education, science, broadcasting, and digital technologies."
Erdoğan expressed that the OTS aims to “encourage youth to receive education in brotherly nations, facilitate collaboration among universities and academics, and ensure that Turkic languages secure their rightful position in the age of artificial intelligence." According to Erdoğan, OTS countries will thus “shape the future of the Turkic world together.”
The President of Türkiye emphasised that a shared historical and cultural foundation is a key element of unity among the Turkic states. Erdoğan also highlighted that the OTS should be founded not only on a shared cultural heritage but also on tangible institutions and projects.
On the prospects for OTS activities, the Turkish leader said he believes "the 21st century will be the Century of the Turkic World." According to Erdoğan, the Organisation’s summit in Ankara is “expected to open new horizons, enhance the OTS’s international influence and level of institutionalisation, and further strengthen solidarity among the Organisation’s member states.”
