The President of Türkiye ensured that the PKK laid down arms after decades of struggle. The dissolution of the PKK following a statement from its founder, Abdullah Öcalan, from prison is the result of a process initiated last autumn by President Erdoğan’s key ally, nationalist leader Devlet Bahçeli.
