Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Ankara would not repeat the mistake of European countries, which suspended their nuclear power plants due to the energy crisis and then decided to restart them.
Commenting on the intention of the alliance of the six opposition parties to revise the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project, which is being built with the Russian Federation, Erdoğan said, "The opposition wants to raze it to the ground."
In an interview with A Haber television channel, Erdogan said, “We have four power units (at Akkuyu) and we will open one on April 27, and we will load the fuel, but this is not enough for us. We plan to launch three more power units after that within five years. We have to do this. There is an energy crisis in the world right now. Germany decided to shut down the nuclear power plant first; I said to German Chancellor Scholz, "You are making a mistake." Scholz said, “Europe wants it that way”. Now Germany has returned to nuclear energy and has begun to use coal. We will not be in the same situation.”
