President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stated during a speech to ambassadors in Ankara on the occasion of an iftar dinner for those fasting during Ramadan:
"The international situation necessitates that one of the members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) with veto power should be an Islamic country."
The Turkish leader said, "Having an Islamic country with veto power in the UN Security Council is no longer a necessity but an obligation. However, we see that instead of adopting a justice-based power-sharing approach, the five permanent members attempt to suppress problems through power centralisation."
Erdoğan also added, "Our struggle under the motto 'The world is bigger than five' is aimed at building a more inclusive system to replace this global order, which not only fails to solve problems but actually creates them. Muslims, who make up one-fourth of the world’s population, must now be represented in decision-making processes in the way they rightfully deserve."
