Erdoğan: “A solution in Cyprus is only possible on a two-state basis” (TASS)

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye stated that a solution in Cyprus is only possible on a two-state basis.

Speaking after his meeting with the new President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Tufan Erhürman, in Ankara, Erdoğan said, "We will not leave alone the Turkish Cypriot people; we have always displayed a clear stance on the Cyprus issue. We believe that the most realistic solution for the Cyprus issue is the co-existence of the two states on the Island."

Erhürman won the TRNC Presidential elections on October 19 with 62.76% of the vote.

Stating that strengthening relations with Türkiye will be among his priorities, the President of Northern Cyprus said, "Türkiye continues to be one of the main participants in all efforts aimed at resolving the Cyprus issue. As before, we will continue to use Türkiye's diplomatic channels to defend the interests of our people in the UN and other international platforms. They will hear and see us; no one will be able to block our dialogue with the world. Türkiye has been our greatest support and continues to be so."
