Director of Communications draws attention to Israel’s disinformation campaign

The Presidency's Director of Communications of the Republic of Türkiye, Fahrettin Altun, stated that the public cannot remain indifferent to Israel's false propaganda, as this would result in the normalisation of Israel's crimes.

Altun said, "We will document Israel's massacre as 'proven war crimes' with 'concrete evidence', through our efforts in the field and the footage we collect."

Altun said, "Today, Israel is committing a heinous act of genocide in Gaza. Israel continues to commit many serious crimes that are defined in the Rome Statute, in particular genocide. Genocide is not just an act of mass killing. Genocide is a full-scale assault on the physical and moral existence of a community. Israel not only massacres the people living in Gaza but also destroys the intangible assets of the region through cultural genocide.''

Highlighting that Israel is attempting to completely destroy the culture, traditions and memory of a people, Altun emphasised that Israel's recent attacks on the Rafah region under the name of a safe zone serve as a clear example of the country's genocide policy.

Altun also emphasised the significance of the book the Anadolu Agency prepared and submitted to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which contains photographs evidencing the crimes Israel committed in Gaza.

Highlighting Israel's efforts to cover up the massacres it has committed in the Gaza Strip, Altun said, "Israel is pursuing a comprehensive disinformation policy, conducted by the state itself, in order to normalise the brutality and barbarism it inflicts on Gaza and Palestinians.

Altun reported, ''Since October 7, our Centre for Combating Disinformation has exposed nearly 200 pieces of Israeli disinformation campaigns."

Recalling that Israel targets and massacres journalists who aim to spread the truth around the region, Altun remarked, "It cannot be a coincidence that 75 percent of the journalists killed in 2023 died in Gaza.

Altun said, "We will make every effort to thwart Israel's efforts to cover up and distort the truth. Unfortunately, a significant part of the Western media is working hard to cover up Israel's massacres while we are making this effort.''

Anadolu Agency hosted a panel discussion on Israel's war crimes on Tuesday, analysing them from the perspective of international criminal law.

The panel titled ''Genocide in Gaza: New Evidence'' also addressed the case before the International Court of Justice.

The International Court of Justice has used photographs that Anadolu Agency reporters have been taking since October 7 to illustrate Israel's war crimes against Gaza as evidence.

The photographs were also compiled into a book titled Evidence.
