Commissioning of the first unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant included in Türkiye’s 2025 development plan

Under the development plan approved by Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for 2025, Türkiye plans to commission the first unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in 2025 and generate approximately 64 GW of electricity within the year.

The document published regarding Türkiye's 2025 development plan states, "While the construction of Akkuyu, Türkiye's first nuclear power plant, continues, nuclear fuel was delivered to the site in 2023. Following the completion of the first unit, which will have a total capacity of 4,800 MW and is planned to be commissioned in 2025, it will meet approximately 10% of Türkiye's electricity needs."

The explanatory section of the development plan also noted that while the construction of the plant continues, trial electricity production, including relevant tests, will begin at the first power unit. Additionally, it was stated that negotiations related to intergovernmental agreements for new nuclear power plant projects would be completed in 2025.
