Ankara, Damascus discuss strengthening cooperation in media and communications (Syria)

A delegation from the Presidency's Directorate of Communications of the Republic of Türkiye met with officials from the Ministry of Information of Syria in Damascus to explore opportunities for cooperation in media, communications, and information.

According to a written statement issued by the Directorate of Communications, the delegation included high-level representatives from the Directorate of Communications' Departments of Public Diplomacy, Press and Publications, Public Relations, Strategic Communication, and Crisis Management.

During this meeting, the Turkish delegation met with Mohammad Tafran, the Deputy Minister for Digital Media Affairs at the Ministry of Information of Syria; Alaa Barsilo, the General Director of the Radio and Television Authority of Syria; Ibrahim Muhammad Suwayd, the Foreign Press Advisor at the Ministry of Information of Syria; and Laila Al Rifaai, the Communication and Media Advisor to the Minister of Information of Syria.

The Turkish delegation provided information about the organisational structure and efforts of the Directorate of Communications. In addition, both parties addressed potential areas for bilateral cooperation in the fields of media, information, combating disinformation, public relations, press and publications, and strategic communication.

The statement indicated that both parties highlighted the importance of enhancing relations in the field of communications at an institutional level, as well as Ankara's willingness to provide comprehensive support by sharing its knowledge and experience in these fields.

Representatives of the Ministry of Information of Syria, while remarking on the challenges faced by media organisations in the country, expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to benefit from the expertise and experience of the Directorate of Communications, particularly in the fields of combating disinformation, digitalisation, and press and publications.
