Altun: Israel violates The Hague and Geneva Conventions and other international humanitarian standards

Turkish Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun spoke at the Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers.

Director of Communications Altun highlighted that Organization of Islamic Cooperation was founded on Muslims' concern to pass the test of Palestine successfully.

"Our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's mottos "The World is Bigger than Five" and "A Fairer World is Possible" aptly capture the need for a revision in the international system.

"Israel committed atrocities, grave human rights violations, and massacres in the Middle East as an extension of Western, colonialist, and imperialist mindset. Israel has committed and continues to commit war crimes, such as forcibly taking over land, ethnic cleansing, and intentionally targeting civilians, all in violation of international law and practices." Fahrettin Altun remarked.

Altun recalled that Israel has committed the following violations so far;

"By targeting ambulances and hospitals, Israel committed the crime of "intentionally directing attacks against medical units and transport," which is specified as a war crime in Article 8 of the Rome Statute.

It violated Article 25 of the Hague Convention by bombing civilians and civilian infrastructure.

By bombing sacred spaces, places of worship and architectural structures, it once again violated Article 4 of the Hague Convention."

Altun continued with the following remarks: "International humanitarian law norms require that civilian access to basic needs like water, food, and medicine be guaranteed. Israel committed a violation of Geneva Convention No. 4 Article 23 by severing Gaza's access to fuel, food, and electricity and impeding humanitarian assistance to Gaza. This act is also outlined in Article 7 of the Rome Statute as one of the "crimes against humanity."

In his speech, Altun noted that it has also been proven that Israel has employed several weapons prohibited by various conventions, such as phosphorus bombs, which are also listed as war crimes under Article 8 of the Rome Statute. Altun added that Israel has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in these attacks, which killed nearly 30,000 innocent people in Gaza.
