A 1700-Year-Old Secret Revealed (India)

Recently a discovery has been made in Türkiye, uncovering a 1700-year-old secret. While digging to plant saplings in his field, a farmer unexpectedly heard a sound and, upon investigating, uncovered a mosaic stone pavement. Once the area was cleaned, an astonishing secret emerged.   An ancient bath was discovered in the farmer's field.

Recently, Turkish archaeologists discovered an ancient and luxurious Roman bath. This finding was reported by Türkiye's official news agency, Anadolu Agency (AA). In 2023, while planting sour cherry saplings, a local landowner stumbled upon a Roman-era mosaic floor. Following this discovery, the Department of Archaeology conducted an in-depth examination of the site using ground-penetrating radar.  Their research indicated that about 70 meters south of the mosaic, a massive bath structure lay hidden underground.

A 1700-Year-Old Bathhouse

According to archaeologists, this bathhouse dates back approximately 1700 years, built during the Late Roman period.  Covering an area of around 75 square meters, its most notable feature is the ancient underfloor heating system, showcasing the advanced engineering of that era.  The bathhouse contained communal washing areas, as well as separate sections for cold, warm, and hot water,  resembling the modern spa experience.  It also included special sweating rooms, washing pools, and distinct channels for clean and dirty water.

Plans to Turn the Site into a Tourist Destination

Archaeologists noted that a significant portion of the structure remains intact, illustrating how much the Roman society of that time valued luxury and health facilities.  Turkish officials intend to develop the site into a tourist destination in the future.  Ahmet Demirdağ, the Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism, shared with Anadolu Agency that this bath and mosaic are just the beginning of the discoveries. "This site holds numerous significant remnants, indicating that it was once an urban settlement in antiquity. We will proceed with the excavation operations.”
