Statement by Centre for Combating Disinformation on reports of Russian military raid on ship

Centre for Combating Disinformation of the Directorate of Communications made a statement regarding the reports that "Russian military raided the Turkish ship Şükrü Okan and the Turkish government did not react".

According to a social media post by the Centre, the allegations in question involve "manipulation."

The characteristics of the ship were also described in the post, which stated:

"As reported in the press, Russian soldiers intervened with the ship called 'Şükrü Okan' in international waters, not Turkish territorial waters. Even though the owner of the ship called 'Şükrü Okan' is Turkish, the ship does not sail under the Turkish flag. In international law, it is the 'flag state' that matters more than the name of the ship or the nationality of its crew. Despite all this, following the intervention on the ship, our counterparts in the Russian Federation were appropriately warned to avoid such attempts to escalate tensions in the Black Sea."
